Stanlow Terminals Ltd has achieved another key accreditation as it develops its biofuels hub to deliver a low carbon future. The organisation has gained certification as a sustainable warehouse facility provider for the storage of bio-based feedstocks and biofuels under the International Sustainability & Carbon Certification (ISCC) from SGS. Stanlow Terminals is committed to comply with international standards and regulations and to become leaders in the bulk liquid storage market.
Achieving the accreditation marks a first in the UK for ISCC certification for a bulk liquid storage company and is in recognition of the organisation’s new approach to more sustainable ways of working. This accreditation is a key growth driver for the biofuels hub and will support our customers’ building a sustainable energy future.
In response to significant customer demand for ISCC storage and warehousing, Stanlow Terminals will ensure that it is ready to facilitate customers who have ISCC-certified products by providing storage and distribution services. The company is developing 300,000m3 of capacity to support customers in adapting to deliver their own net zero ambitions.
The ISCC is an internationally recognised standard in the biofuels and energy industry. It applies to companies at all points in the supply chain and supports biofuels, bio-based feedstocks and renewables that meet the defined sustainability criteria. The certification is aligned with the EU’s Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) and the Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) in the UK and complies with the Fuel Quality Directive (FQD) of the European Commission.
Stanlow Terminals already provides biofuels storage capacity for customers through a dedicated supply and delivery infrastructure. This new accreditation supports the storage of future fuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) and other bio-based development fuels. The market for energy from renewable sources in the UK is expanding rapidly, driven by legislative obligations to encourage lower carbon fuels.
Michael Gaynon, chief executive officer at Stanlow Terminals, said: “Being recognised as an ISCC certified provider represents a landmark moment for Stanlow Terminals, not only in the fact that we are the first UK fuel storage provider to have achieved the accreditation but also as it also demonstrates our commitment to more environmentally sustainable ways of working.
“As our business grows, protecting people and the environment will always be a top priority for us and our customers. This accreditation provides independent verification that we have the right management systems in place.”
